Data-driven Fact Checking of Coronavirus Claims

Dates: Sept 2020 – Aug 2021

The spread of the Coronavirus is accompanied by a spread of rumors and misinformation. Erroneous claims reach from incorrect statistics to “cures” that are potentially dangerous. Various fact-checking organizations have started to address this issue. However, the number of claims that can be verified by hand is limited. Building on our experience with the Coronacheck website, this project deals with the development of scalable and explainable methods for verifying claims and identifying misinformation about COVID-19.

The project is in collaboration with Prof. Trummer at Cornell University (USA).
